Couples Therapy to Reconnect and Rebuild

Couples therapy room at Turnwell Mental Health

Most couples who come to therapy are not in crisis. They have hit a wall. The same conversations keep going nowhere and it starts to feel like something is broken that cannot be fixed. Turnwell's licensed therapists help identify what is actually driving those patterns and build concrete skills to change them. Sessions draw on the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy. In-person at all four locations, with telehealth available throughout GA, SC, and FL.

What We Address

When You Both Know Something Needs to Change

Couples therapy at Turnwell is not just for relationships in crisis. Many couples seek therapy to strengthen communication before patterns become entrenched, to navigate a major transition, or to work through the aftermath of an incident that shook trust. Others come after years of feeling disconnected and not quite knowing how to find their way back.

Our licensed therapists use evidence-based frameworks including the Gottman Method, which focuses on building friendship, managing conflict, and creating shared meaning, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which addresses the attachment patterns and emotional cycles that drive disconnection.

Sessions are structured but collaborative. Both partners have the opportunity to be heard. The therapist's role is not to take sides, but to help both partners understand what is happening between them and to build the skills they need to move forward together.

FAQ

Couples Therapy Questions

What is couples therapy?
Couples therapy involves both partners working with a licensed therapist to improve communication, resolve conflict, rebuild trust, and strengthen the relationship. Turnwell therapists use evidence-based approaches including the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
Does insurance cover couples therapy?
Coverage for couples therapy varies by insurance plan. Some plans cover it when a specific mental health diagnosis is present in one or both partners. Turnwell verifies your benefits before your first appointment. Telehealth couples therapy is also available throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.
Where is couples therapy available?
Couples therapy is available in-person at all four Turnwell locations in Alpharetta GA, Mt. Pleasant (Charleston) SC, Aventura FL, and Tampa Bay FL, and via telehealth throughout Georgia, South Carolina, and Florida.
How many sessions will we need?
The number of sessions depends on the issues being addressed and the goals of both partners. Many couples see meaningful progress in 8 to 12 sessions. More complex situations involving infidelity, addiction, or long-standing patterns may require a longer course. Your therapist will outline a realistic plan after the initial evaluation.
Is couples therapy only for relationships in crisis?
Not at all. Many couples come to therapy to strengthen communication before patterns become entrenched, to navigate a major life transition, or to work through a specific challenge while the relationship is still strong. Pre-marital counseling is also available for couples preparing for marriage who want to establish a strong foundation.
What if only one partner is willing to come?
If one partner is initially reluctant, individual therapy can still be a productive starting point. Individual sessions can address personal patterns that affect the relationship and, in some cases, help a reluctant partner see the value in joint work. Contact us to discuss the best approach for your situation.

Schedule Your First Couples Therapy Session

Reaching out is the hardest part. Our team matches you with a therapist who is a good clinical fit, verifies your insurance benefits, and gets you both scheduled, typically within a few days. The first session is a conversation about where you are and what you are hoping for. No prior therapy experience is required. In-person and telehealth options both available.
