About Dr. Robben

Dr. Derek Robben is one of Tampa Bay's most decorated and experienced psychiatrists, a U.S. Air Force veteran who completed his entire clinical training at the University of South Florida, from his MD through his residency in general psychiatry and his fellowship in addiction psychiatry. That grounding in a single, world-class institution gave him an unusually cohesive and rigorous foundation in both fields.

He has been voted Tampa Bay's Top Doctor in Addiction Medicine by his physician peers in 8 of the last 9 years, a recognition that speaks not just to clinical skill, but to the respect he commands within the medical community. Dr. Robben is a certified Medical Review Officer and holds a DEA waiver to prescribe buprenorphine, giving patients access to evidence-based medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder.

Dr. Robben's clinical expertise spans the full complexity of psychiatric care: treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, substance use disorders, and co-occurring mental health conditions. He is one of a small number of psychiatrists in the region certified in both TMS therapy and Spravato® (esketamine), advanced, interventional treatments he has used to help patients who had given up hope that anything would work.

His approach is supportive, patient-centered, and collaborative. He believes in educating patients on the evidence behind their treatment options and building a plan that reflects their personal values and goals. Whether he is helping a veteran navigate PTSD or a patient overcome addiction, Dr. Robben shows up with the same commitment: expert care, delivered with humanity.
