Dr. Ajay Sood is a Charleston native who has dedicated more than 20 years of his career to the mental health of his home community. As Lead Psychiatrist at Turnwell Mental Health of Charleston, he brings a rare combination of deep local roots, elite academic training, and genuine warmth to every patient relationship.
Dr. Sood earned his medical degree from the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), one of the nation's leading academic medical centers, before completing his psychiatry residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He then returned to MUSC for a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, establishing the specialized expertise that has defined his career.
Over two decades of practice, Dr. Sood has built comprehensive experience treating children, adolescents, and adults across a wide range of clinical settings throughout the Lowcountry. His areas of focus include mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, depression, and bipolar disorder, and he is known for his skill in both pharmacological management and psychotherapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
